MUNJANI's Dr Aiman Rsheed who conceptualised and unveiled the Africa Pass project



Dr Aiman Rsheed, an Egyptian engineer and a founding member and director of the MUNJANI Afrika Investment Corporation (MUNJANI), has conceptualized and unveiled a mammoth and ambitious engineering project that might have far-reaching developmental and modernization impact on the African continent.

Named THE AFRICA PASS PROJECT, it will revolutionise the economies of sub-Saharan and North Africa as well as relations within the continent and across the Mediterranean into Europe and Asia. Shareholders and other stakeholders will include companies, private sector and governments.

The Africa Pass, adopted by MUNJANI as a project, the Pass will open the Egyptian desert in the west for development and population and also revolutionize the economies of Sub-Saharan and North Africa as well as relations within the continent and across the Mediterranean into Europe and Asia.

Shareholders and other stakeholders will include companies and governments. Shares will also be made available to the international public as Munjani begins to engage and put together key players.

The project has been under discussion since 2012 and has broadly garnered the support of engineers, university professors, and all of those behind the development and modernization of key parts of the African continent.

Rsheed has been interviewed on many Egyptian television channels to present his idea to a nation which has been hungry for a developmental solution that will have an impact far beyond the border of African countries and also serve as main transport link between Africa, the Mediterranean and Europe.

He said recently: “I believe that this a good project bringing with it growth, prosperity and advancement not only to the Egyptian people but also to the people of the nine neighboring African nations, and will also have an impact on many countries in Europe and Asia.”

Aiman Rsheed served in the Egyptian Military and Air Forces as Colonel, specializing in aviation engineering, disaster relief and planning. He ended his military service in 2008 and went to complete his PhD in mechanical engineering in Ain Shams University. He studied at the Institute of the Air Force and worked there as chief engineer for planning and maintenance workshops. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1986, graduating from the Military Technical College.

He added: “I worked on this since 1988 to study, develop, and update this project according to information I acquired or by reviewing similar projects by others, and also from the comments I received on my Page on Facebook”.

He said: “Egypt and whole of Africa are gathering around this project, and that is because it is a giant project that serves all the interests of the whole world, like Suez Canal at the time.”

Inside Egypt alone and along the Africa Pass corridor, five large cities are envisioned to be constructed like a string of beads with 250 kms between each city in an area that is practically only desert now. That will alleviate the demographic pressure on the Egyptian cities and help make the desert bloom with life and activity again with the help of the canal bringing water from the Congo.

The building of the Sidi Barrani port, a modern container-handling and industrial centre on the Mediterranean with a large international airport, is the first and easiest part of the project to accomplish, according to the study. The large industrial zone and tourist zone in the area will attract industries, skilled employees and so on.

In the second phase Somalia and Ethiopia will be connected. In the third Egypt will be connected to Asia through a tunnel underneath the Suez Canal and a bridge from south Sinai to Saudi Arabia across the Totan Island in the south of the Gulf of Aqaba. In the fourth a high-speed rail network across North Africa westward will connect to Europe through the planned Gibraltar tunnel.

Rsheed summarizes the project as thus: “The Africa Pass will connect Sidi Barani at the Mediterranean and Burundi in Central Africa, and also connects Sidi Barani and Mogadishu capital of Somalia on the Indian Ocean, to accommodate the shipments of all the ships that uses Cape of Good Hope. Also, construction of two giant ports with great depth, and building of the greatest container terminal in the world and the greatest storage for transit cargo, which will be beneficial to Egypt and other nine African countries, boosting the Egyptian and other African  national income, doubling DGP for all North, Central and East Africa.”

He said: “Egypt and the other countries will not just be collectors of transit fees, or performing limited commercial and marine services, but it will cover the developmental requirements in all aspects of human development and creation of new societies in accordance with the latest scientific systems and provide millions of job opportunities for all ages and activities and specialties in many fields.”

He cited few examples:

  • CONSTRUCTION: building of giant cities that accommodates millions of people, with good planned architectural style.
  • MINING: raw materials that constitutes great national asset.
  • ENERGY: generating electricity from the sun
  • INDUSTRY: introducing of many industries on the project’s outputs.
  • TRANSPORTATION: railways – this project will bring to bear  the greatest railway ever
  • INTERNATIONAL TRADE: A leap in international trade and industry
  • ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION: the different constructions of roads, railways, tunnels, and bridges along the pass will be an engineering achievement.
  • TOURISM: countries will have a giant leap in tourist numbers
  • AGRICULTURE: cultivated land and agricultural development will increase in Africa facilitating the ease of exporting of agricultural products.

The Africa Pass, says Rsheed, guarantees delivery of resources to the industrial West in unimaginably low prices, and ensures sustainable development of African countries, while avoiding conflicts and ensuring stability and prosperity.

Africa Pass Project Objectives

  1. Development of nine African nations through real economic development projects.
  2. Turning Egypt and the other African nations through which the project passes into industrial, labour-attracting centres instead of labour-flight disaster areas.
  3. Opening an export outlet for the agricultural products of the nations of the Great Lakes region which are currently wasted for lack of storage and low-cost, rapid means of transport. It is estimated that agricultural and other products will be ready for shipping from their place of origin to the Mediterranean within two days with the help of the high-speed rail and Sidi Barrani port. This project will open up new agricultural sectors in the region which have lain dormant and isolated such as the enormous potential of livestock and diary production on both parts of Sudan.
  4. Redistributing the population into new cities, towns and service centres in a fertile environment that is aspiring to grow.
  5. Re-establishing Egypt’s leading role and connection to Africa with renewed economic and diplomatic cooperation.
  6. Developing the water resources of all nations included in the project and ensuring the production of large amount of clean hydro-electric power.
